Field Day at Nathaniel Morton

Field Day is just about everybody's favorite day of the school year. Events were organized by Mrs. Nye and held both in the gym and out on the field. Many parents and other family members volunteered to help out. Classes were divided into red, yellow, blue, and green teams and circulated among the various areas. At the sound of an air horn they changed to the next activity. A video was shown at recess time to give everyone a little cooling down time. Lunch was hot dogs cooked outside on the grill. At the end of the day everyone got a popsicle and a ribbon the color of their team.

Things to See In and Around Plymouth

On the right you can see a slideshow of the drawings the second graders created. Drawings from both schools are combined for this slideshow. Be sure to click on it to enlarge the pictures.
The children were asked to draw something that they would want the children from Plymouth, England to see if they were to visit Plymouth, Massachusetts. They also were to write a sentence telling what their place is and what you could do there. Most of the places are right in Plymouth, but some are day trips to Boston or other cities and towns nearby.

Hi children,

Thanks for your posts. We have really enjoyed reading all about your school. We are the Turtles class and we are 5 and 6 years old. There are 30 of us in our class. We have written some questions for you.
How many children are in your classes?
Is it nice not having to wear school uniform?
Do you have school dinner or packed lunches?
What time do you start and finish school?
What is your country like?

Thank you. We hope to hear from you soon.

From the Turtles class.

Technology Class

Mrs. Hughes' class is in the Computer Lab with Mrs. Doolittle. In this lesson they are using software called Kidspiration to brainstorm for ideas about places they would be sure to show the English children if they came to visit Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Money Game

We use a math program called Everyday Math. One way that students learn in this program is by playing games. Ms. Finkel's class is playing "Pick a Coin".

Snack Time

Lunch is early in the day, so to keep the energy level up, it's time to break for a snack.

Music Class

In music class, Mrs. Dean's class was trying to determine whether Vince Guaraldi's song Linus and Lucy is in rondo form. Mrs. Devoe showed the students some of the dances that the Peanuts characters do. They were to dance whenever they heard the "A" music and sit for the other parts.

Lunchtime at Cold Spring School

Lunch today is pasta with or without meat sauce and meatballs. The children choose in the cafeteria line or bring lunch from home.
When the weather is nice, the children at Cold Spring School have lunch outside at picnic tables with umbrellas.

Recess at Nathaniel Morton

Recess is everybody's favorite time of the day! All of the second graders have recess together right before lunch. Each class has a day that they may play on the playground equipment. Normally many of the children would play on the field, but it has too many puddles from all of the rain we have been having this month.

Greetings!

Hello everyone,
We are the ICT club at Plaistow Hill in Plymouth UK writing to say hello. We have taken a few photos around our school to show you, your school looks very big compared to ours! Our school has just over 200 children ages 3-7 and we have 7 classes, all named after sea animals like Turtle Class and Dolphin Class. We start school at 8.45 and finish at 3.00, but on some days we have clubs after school like we are doing now. We would like to know what you do at school and do you have a uniform, ours is purple sweatshirts and grey skirt or trousers.

Hello, boys and girls in Plymouth, Massachusetts and Plymouth, England! I am so excited that children from our two countries have this chance to get to know each other and to learn something about our towns. Both of our towns have histories that are important to our countries, and it will be fun to learn about the things we have in common as well as what makes us different. I hope through this project you will make new friends and be able to communicate from an ocean away. I hope you enjoy your "armchair travel." I will check in with you from time to time to see how you are doing. Have fun! Mrs. Dolloff
